HOW IS YOUR PERCEPTION?

You enter a dark room.  Your heart races.  You think you see something scary in the room.  Your mouth gets dry, you feel afraid.  Why?

Perception.  You perceive danger because, its dark and that means there must be something in the room to be afraid of.

Now, you turn on the light.  With the light on, your perception changes.  In the room is a table and a chair.  That's it.

Why am I telling you this?  Well, believe it or not, when you use a golf club to hit or swing at a golf ball and move it towards your intended target, it's a very similar experience.

My point is, most golfers look at a golf ball and try to hit it, or swing at it, incorrectly because they don't have the correct perception.

History.  In 1998, after about 4 years of struggling with my teaching, I realized that a great majority of my students were making similar mistakes.  That is, they either sliced the ball, lacked power, or lacked consistency.

Many struggling golfers don't understand how their golf club was designed to work.  Nor should they.  For that reason, they mis-apply the club to the ball.

Trust me, I have witnessed  this over the years happening to thousands of golfers.  Unfortunately, keeping your head down, left arm straight, eye on the ball, right shoulder down and through, right elbow in, right wrist bent, left hand rolled, etc. may help, but unless you create the correct swing intention (caused by the correct perception) your new swing tip will not do the trick.  Or, you will be forced to go back to your teacher more for help.  With the correct intention, your swing tip will make more sense.  With the correct intention, YOU will be in charge of your swing, not your teacher.
